Is Eutroxsig Precisely the Same Medication As Oroxine and Why Would a Patient Be Prescribed Both At the Same Time?

The patient is my 92 y/o mother who has arrythmia and high blood pressure. She recently had her medicines re-evaluated by a physician - 8 weeks ago but I think he may have doubled up on Oroxine in error. As She told me she was now taking Eutroxsig as well as Oroxine and that both are being supplied in her blister pack from the pharmacy.

I'm checking this as she has just had a minor stroke today. I'm not in the country, Australia at present and I'll ask someone there to confirm the medicines she's on but I need to know if someone would be on both products. The info I've read on the net says they are one and the same and that an overdose of thyroxine could produce a stroke.

Both Oroxine and Eutroxsig are brand names of Levothyroxine. Based on research, too much Levothyroxine may increase the risk of stroke. Talk to your mother's doctor and raise this concern.
