Teen depression was in the past often not diagnosed properly as people would just think that teenagers were going through puberty or raging hormone levels. However teenagers do actually suffer from it which is why it is important that it does properly get diagnosed.
Recent studies have shown found that around 15% of all teenagers do suffer from it. The good news of course is that treatments are readily available for these adolescents.
One might wonder why teens would get depressed however there are various main reasons which can result into this mental disorder. We should not forget that teens do go through a lot of things and emotions which many include finding their sexual orientation, the way they perform at school, their position among peers and the list goes on.
It is rather easy for these adolescents to feel inadequate for a variety of reason any they can feel not wanted or useless. What often occurs is that teens which suffer from depressions will start becoming isolated from loved ones and friends.
If you are worried about a friend or perhaps your child then please note that there are symptoms which you can look out for. As mentioned before, kids who suffer from teen depression will often become isolated and will spend a lot of time on their own.
What often can also be found is a complete lack of motivation as well as visible changes in the way they behave and thought process. What you will also often find is that these children will sleep a great deal and they often also start eating a lot of even very little at all.
Some of the other types of symptoms which you should look out for include:
-    Loss of memory
-    Problems with focusing.
-    Lack of Interest
-    Poor results in school
-    Drug or alcohol abuse
-    Thinking about death
-    Careless behavior
-    No friends
