Yoga During Menopause

When a woman’s reproductive system slows down and eventually stopped at around 50 years of age, this is called menopause. Each female has to pass through this stage of life. Symptoms may include the following: heart palpitations, dizziness, uneasiness, decreased sex drive, feeling of vomiting, sleeplessness, headache, loss of concentration, gloomy, pain in joints, dryness of skin, drop in estrogen levels, bone mass loss. Before menopause begins, the ovaries secrete hormone called estrogen. During menopause, secretion of estrogen depletes. This reduction signifies the pituitary gland to secrete more ganodotrophin hormones just to maintain balance of body’s system. Eighty percent of women who undergo menopause suffer from uneasiness, lot of perspiration and unnatural bodily heat. This imbalance in temperature is caused by decreased estrogen level leading to absurd perspiration. Others feel trembling due to cold, which is also caused by chemical changes as estrogen decreases. Some women easily adapt to this discomfort while some feel uncomfortable and often unwelcome sensations as their body adjusts to a new chemical balance.

With all these discomforts that menopause bring, Yoga may help keep the body and mind sound healthy. Those women who practice yoga at their middle age claim that they hardly notice the terrible symptoms of menopause. Yoga helps in alleviating or eliminating many of these discomforts, whether physical or emotional problems associated with menopause.
