Hi! I am just a seventeen year old who has been having pretty bad asthma all my life and now I am trying to get in touch with parents of Asthmatic children.
I have never been in the hospital since I was a kid and I did hear that both my parents gave up smoking when my mom was expecting me but I have always been inhaling cigarette smoke till I was twelve as both for them were always smoking around me. As per my peak flow readings and the zones I was in, I was always told that I was bordering the yellow/red zones. I was often administered medications to remedy my condition but most of the time, my parents could not pay for them. I was told that passive smoking was the main trigger for my asthma.
Well, this is what got me thinking. Why is it not possible for some of the taxes got from cigarettes to pay for the medication and researches of asthma for small kids? Don’t you parents think that those people who are responsible for children contracting the symptoms and the pain of having to go up a set of stairs daily with breathing difficulty should be made to pay for it? Why must the families with very low income be punished when they are trying the best they can to save their child the pains of being an asthmatic?
Why should adults who do not smoke, who try to prevent their kids from having an attack of asthma, be made to pay that extra fifty dollars to get medication for the kids? Do you not think that those who contribute to the passive smoking are the ones to be penalized? Well I was just voicing my thoughts out loud and get the parents thinking.
