A Dramatic Change In Breathing After a Change of Dosage In Prilosec

0 votes
Hi folks. I’m new to this forum and I’ll try to be brief.
I’m in my 40’s and for the better part of 20 years, I’ve suffered from asthma. For the last 10 years, things have become much worse. I won’t go into all the routes for a solution I have taken except a few years ago, I’ve been reading about the connections between GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease) and asthma. My doctor agreed to prescribe Nexium (after many skeptics), which I quit after it failed to give any benefits. I decided to take medication again after the Prilosec OTC came out. This time again, it didn’t provide any noticeable relief.
Past this month, my wife had a severe heart burn like she had ever before. Since I feared this might be something dreadful, I took her to the emergency room on a weekend. They found no serious problem with her heart. The doctor at the emergency prescribed Protorix(40mg) and told her to go see a gastro doctor. When asked the doctor if the medicine was similar to Prilosec OTC, he said it is related but stronger. Now here comes the actual story.
When I did a little research on the net about prilosec dosage, I found out that it was prescribed in dosage of 40mg but the OTC version was 20mg. So, I decided to experiment it on myself. For 10 days, I’ve kept taking 20mg prilosec OTC pills, 1 in the morning and 1 before I go to bed and so far the results have been good. I’ve been able to get satisfying breaths. For years, I could get very seldom get an intake of breathe that was satisfying (and not tight). My intakes would never reach a final gear if you will. I still struggle during different times of the day but there has been a dramatic improvement in my breathing.
