How Effective and Necessary Is Atrovent for Bronchitis?

Hi I was wondering if anyone can help me out on this.
I am not feeling well for some time with bronchitis because I was having a hard time clearing my lungs and since my doctor put me on Atrovent. I want to know the theory behind the Atrovent. I know Atrovent is a bronchodilator, but how does this help me? Also, I sometimes have this nausea feeling and some dizziness as side effects. If this not something necessary or not good, please suggest it to me so that I can stay off it. On the other hand, if it is necessary, then I’m ready to cope up with the side effects.
