The name of this syndrome speaks for itself. It is a highly frightening syndrome that can affect babies 1 month - 1 year of age. This is the number one leading causes of death on infants, about 2,500 life claims are reported each year.

This syndrome can strike without warning in seemingly most healthy babies. The syndrome usually occurs within sleep also known as "Crib Death" and the infants who died from SIDS shows no signs of suffering.

Most babies who suffers from this is from about 2 months - 4 months old and this usually occurs during a very cold weather.

Here are other factors that may cause SIDS:

- smoking, drinking or drug abuse during pregnancy
- prematurity or low birth weight
- poor prenatal care
- mothers younger than 20
- overheating from excessive sleepwear or bedding
- stomach sleeping
