Is Vistaril Safe While Breastfeeding?

My doctor prescribed vistaril for my anxiety (in addition to the celexa I already take). But when I picked it up from the pharmacy it says not to take while breastfeeding.

Although the risks are not fully known, Vistaril (Hydroxyzine) might not be safe during pregnancy. In animal studies, high doses of the medicine may increase the risks for birth defects and fetal death. This medication, however, was not used in a study wherein it has to be given to pregnant women.

Talk to your doctor so you both can discuss the benefits and the risks that come with taking this drug while you're pregnant.

Vistaril and Celexa also have moderate drug-drug interaction. Both have central nervous system (CNS) and respiratory depressant efffects. Taking them at the same time may increase the effect. If you feel severe drowsiness and involuntary movements, notify your doctor as he may adjust the dosing.
