Does My Being a Type 2 Diabetic Increase the Risk of Being a Type 1 Diabetic?

I am a type 2 diabetic that was diagnosed at age 26. I have three children. I know that my being a diabetic increases the chance that my children will also become diabetics, but I was wondering if it also increases their chance of being a type 1 diabetic. Should I talk with their pediatrician and ask that he check all three children for type 1 diabetes.
When should I have them tested for type 2 diabetes? Since it is also known as adult onset diabetes aren't they safe until they are adults? Do I need to make changes in their diet now to help later?

Your children's risk of acquiring Type 2 DM is 12 to 15%.

Children, whose parent/s have Type 1 DM, only have 2 to 6% risk of developing the disease.

Screening for Type 2 DM can be done even on infants, especially those who are heavier than 9 pounds.
